  • Caravaggio’s David and Goliath
  • Bernini’s Apollo and Daphne
  • Raphael’s Transfiguration
  • Canova’s Paolina Bonaparte-Borghese

The Borghese Gallery is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of art, begun in the early 1600’s by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the patron of some of the greatest artists of his age, including Caravaggio and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. He also collected works by earlier masters and ancient finds. The collection continued to be added to over time, and is now held in the grand location of Villa Borghese.

With an expert and passionate guide, take a tour through the gallery and discover just why this collection is so special.

See some of the earliest and last works by the revolutionary Caravaggio, who had a life that was so fascinating that it could almost eclipse his paintings.

Marvel at the skill of Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who - with simply a hammer and chisel - could create sculptures that look like flesh.

In the picture gallery, works are displayed from greats such as Titian and Rubens. A highlight is The Deposition by Raphael - possibly the greatest painter of the Renaissance - which has one of the great stories of art theft behind it.

The tour doesn’t end at the gallery. After leaving, your guide will walk you through the gardens, which is now a public park, so that you can discover how opulent the lifestyle of a great Roman family was. With their own lake and fake ruins, they transformed part of the city into their own personal playground!

The knowledge and enthusiasm of our guides - art historians and historians - will give you an experience that is second to none, and will leave you with a fascinating new take on Renaissance and Baroque art.

Yes, the entrance fees to the Galleria Borghese are included.

What should I bring?

The walk through the Borghese Gardens can have uneven ground, so we recommend comfortable shoes.

In the summer it can be warm, though the Gallery is air conditioned. We recommend to bring some water, though there is a café in the Gallery but it can have a line.
